Gangtok: Maghey Sankranti festival and Tambola go hand-in-hand in Sikkim. But in an incident in Singtam, East Sikkim on Republic Day, a section of people were infuriated with the organisers of a fair, alleging foul play in the Tambola Game.

As heard in the video, the prize money in the game was Rs 2 lakh, yet somehow the organisers lost the winners ticket, resulting in the chaos.

The fight appears to have broken out between the organisers and gamers.

The situation was brought under control by Singtam Police who arrested five individuals for creating a public nuisance. They have been booked under IPC sections 147 for rioting, section 324 on voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, and section 34 for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.

Sikkim Police will also be taking action against the organisers for violating the conditions of the permission. It appears that mass gathering was allowed till late evening at Singtam market where the incident occurred.

Sikkim Police has claimed that the matter is under investigation.
